The new design for New Zealand banknotes
So everyone is talking about the new designs for the New Zealand banknotes so I thought I’d put my 2 cents in. Pictured above are 2 of Norway’s new notes which are an example of currency design done right. You can check out New Zealand’s notes here.
Perhaps I just follow too many other designers on Twitter but the consensus seems to be that the new designs are not great. One designer went as far as calling them “fugly”. I was disappointed they were designed in Canada rather than by a New Zealand agency. Supposedly they were put out to tender on GETS and NO New Zealand company responded to the tender. Having worked in a Wellington agency that was involved with many government design tenders I find that somewhat hard to believe. In my opinion they are too busy and obviously don’t follow the KISS principle.
